Window Services in Connecticut

Most window calls start with one room that is cold in January or one unit that fogged up. Here is what we install, whether it is that one window or the whole house.

Signs It Is Time to Replace Your Windows

Windows rarely fail all at once. They get a little worse each winter until the heating bill or the puddle on the sill makes the decision for you.

Choosing the Right Windows for a Connecticut Home

The style decides how the window works. The glass decides what it costs to heat the room. Both matter more than the name on the sticker.

Styles, and Where Each One Belongs

Double-hung or casement. Double-hung windows slide up and down and are the classic New England look. Casements crank open outward, seal tighter against wind, and suit kitchens and anywhere you reach over a counter.

Bay or bow. A bay is three panels with a wide center and angled sides. A bow is four or more panels in a gentle curve. Bays give more usable seat; bows give more glass and a softer line.

Picture and sliding. Picture windows do not open and give the largest view for the money. Sliders open sideways and work where there is no room to swing a window outward.

The glass. Double-pane Low-E with argon fill is the right package for Connecticut. Triple-pane is worth it on north walls and bedrooms near a road.

Windows That Match the Rest of the Exterior

Epic Exteriors installs and replaces windows. We do not piece together old units. If a window has failed, we measure it, tell you whether an insert or a full-frame replacement is the right fix.

Skylights, Trim and Siding Around New Windows

A window is only as weathertight as the wall around it. These are the three things that usually come up on a window estimate.

  • Skylights – New skylights, replacements and sun tunnels by a VELUX Certified installer. See skylight installation
  • Exterior Trim and Capping – Full-frame gets new trim capped in aluminum, inserts get fresh sealant
  • Siding Around the Opening – Flashing tied into the house wrap, failing siding replaced alongside. See our siding services

Replacement Window FAQ

A single window takes an hour or two. A whole house is usually one to two days, and we never leave an opening uncovered overnight.

An insert replacement fits a new unit inside the existing frame and keeps the trim. It is faster and costs less when the old frame is sound. A full-frame replacement takes everything back to the rough opening, which is the answer when there is rot or when you want a bigger glass area. We check each opening and tell you which.

Either. Plenty of jobs are a single failed unit. We will tell you if others are close behind so you can plan.

The number of openings, the style, the glass package, full-frame versus insert, and how much trim work the openings need. Bay and bow windows cost more because there is framing and roofing involved. We give one price that covers all of it.

Yes. Vinyl does not rot, never needs paint and insulates well. With Low-E double-pane glass and argon fill it handles New England winters fine, and it is the best value per opening.

A very thin metallic coating on the glass that reflects heat back toward its source. In winter it keeps room heat in. In summer it keeps sun heat out. Ask for a Low-E package tuned for northern climates.

If your current windows are single-pane, leaking or fogged, usually yes. The exact saving depends on the house. What you notice first is that the rooms near the windows stop being cold.

Yes. Epic Exteriors is a VELUX Certified Skylight Installer. Skylights have their own page: skylight installation.

For an insert replacement, no. For a full-frame replacement we remove the trim and a few courses of siding around the opening to flash it correctly, then put it back or replace it.
