What Goes Into an Epic Exteriors Roof

The shingle is the part you see from the street. The roof that keeps water out of the house is the six layers below, and we install all of them on every home.

What a Free Roof Inspection Tells You

Most homeowners call because of one thing they noticed. The inspection is how we find out whether that one thing is the whole story.

Real shingle samples, the full system listed, and a price that does not change on install day.

Why We Lead With GAF Timberline HDZ

We install other shingle lines when a homeowner asks for them. Timberline HDZ is the one we recommend, because it is the shingle we have put on more Connecticut homes than any other and the one that comes back with the fewest calls.

What Timberline HDZ Gives You

Wind resistance. With the LayerLock strip and the matching GAF starter and ridge products, HDZ carries a wind warranty with no maximum wind speed limit. New England nor’easters are the reason that matters here.

Algae protection. The StainGuard Plus treatment resists the black streaks that show up on north-facing slopes in Connecticut within a few summers.

Color and profile. A dimensional, wood-shake look in a range of blends. You choose from full-size samples on the estimate visit, not from a brochure. See every Timberline HDZ color in GAF’s visualizer first.

Warranty. Installed as a complete GAF system by a GAF Certified Plus contractor, your roof qualifies for the System Plus Limited Warranty, with the Silver Pledge Limited Warranty available as an upgrade. Our own workmanship warranty sits on top of both. The terms are spelled out on our GAF warranty page.

A New Roof, Installed the Way the Warranty Expects

Epic Exteriors installs new roofs and replaces old ones across central Connecticut. We do not patch roofs and we do not layer new shingles over old. Book the free inspection and find out what your roof actually needs.

New Roofs on Additions, Garages and Dormers

Not every new roof is a replacement. A good share of our residential work is roofing new construction, and the hard part is where the new roof meets the old one.

  • Additions and Dormers – Shingle courses woven in, new step flashing, color and profile matched
  • Detached Garages, Barns and Sheds – Same system as the house, ice and water shield and ridge vent included
  • New Builds – Roofing from the underlayment up, coordinated with the framer and HVAC contractor

Residential Roofing FAQ

A properly installed architectural shingle roof typically lasts 25 to 30 years here. Ventilation is the variable most people miss. A hot, unvented attic can take five years off that number, which is why the ridge vent is part of every system we install.

Shingle condition on every slope, flashing at walls, chimneys and pipes, the state of the gutters and drip edge, and the attic side for moisture, daylight and ventilation. You get photos and a plain-language summary, whether or not you need a new roof.

GAF’s architectural asphalt shingle, and the one we install most. It has a dimensional wood-shake look, the LayerLock strip that gives it its wind rating, and StainGuard Plus algae protection. It comes in a wide range of color blends.

Yes. A new roof on an addition or dormer gets the same complete GAF system as a full replacement, and we match the shingle color and profile to the existing roof. Where the two roofs meet we weave the courses together and flash it as one roof, not two.

Roof size and pitch, how many layers come off, the condition of the roof sheathing, the number of valleys, chimneys and vents, and the shingle line. For a quick range before anyone visits, try the instant roof estimate from your address.

If wind or hail damaged the roof, often yes, minus your deductible. Age alone is not covered. The claim process is on our storm damage page.

No, and you would not want to. The underlayment, ice and water shield and flashing are what keep the house dry, and they are at the end of their life at the same time as the shingles. We install the full system on every roof.

A construction standard from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety that adds sealed roof sheathing, ring-shank nails and stronger edge details to a normal roof. We offer it as an option. Some insurers give a discount for it.

One day for most single-family homes. Larger or steeper roofs take two. The roof is never left open overnight.
